Q.) Why should I book a Lost Art DJ?

Quite simply, we're professional, we're experienced, we know how to DJ, and we're ready to bear the brunt of creating an entire playlist of music for your event or take direction from you in putting together your favorite list of songs and then perfectly piecing them together.

Q.) What is your booking policy?

Bookings are done on a first-come first-served basis. To secure one of our DJs for your event, we ask for a signed contract and non-refundable retainer. Everything can be completed online from start to finish and we provide all of our clients with their own online planning portal to make the planning and preparation process as cool and painless as possible! Of course we're always happy to work with you offline, too, if you prefer.

Q.) Will I be able to meet with my DJ?

Absolutely! All of our DJs are available for an in-person meeting, phone call, or even video chat at any point before making a decision, upon booking, or even any time during the planning process. And the DJ you book is who you will walk you through the planning process and who will rock out with you side-by-side to ensure that your event is nothing short of perfect.

Q.) What kind of music will my DJ play?

Everything! From mainstream hits to current Hip Hop and R&B, Classic Rock, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Motown, and everything in between. We always tailor the music to your event so it doesn't suffer from some some cookie-cutter, broad stroke play list. And we're not pretentious music snobs, either, who will refuse to play your songs. Your Lost Art DJ will invest time and energy to ensure that the music is absolutely perfect, painstakingly piecing together the soundtrack to your party to keep everyone's toes tapping and/or feet on the dance floor.

And once you book a Lost Art DJ for your event, you will have access to your own personal planning portal where you can fill in all of your event details and your favorite songs — and even the songs that you don’t want us to play!

Q.) What will my DJ wear to my event?

Whether you're hosting a black-tie wedding or a casual, backyard barbecue, you can absolutely direct your DJs approach to fashion at your event. You can feel confident that we won't wear ripped jeans at your wedding -- not unless you tell us.

Q.) Do you have a backup should something happen to the DJ?

We are happy to send a replacement DJ in their place. And because everything from the music to your planning details are digital, DJs can easily share music and planning files ensuring that we won’t miss a beat when it comes to your special celebration or event.

Q.) Will the DJ TAKE REQUESTS AT MY EVENT?

Our DJs only take requests if you allow it and if so then will “filter” requests meaning they we will not play a song, genre, or artist that you’ve asked us not to play. If a request meets this criteria and if the DJ thinks that it will fit in well with your event, then we will do our best to play the request.

Q.) Do I tip MY DJ?

We do not include gratuity in the final contract price. If your DJ does a great job, then 10-20% is generally recommended, but it is given entirely at your discretion.

Q.) Will the DJ play overtime if needed?

Yes, DJs are able to play past the contracted time; however, please understand that payment for the overtime is due at the time of event.

Q.) When should we book a DJ?

A good time frame is at least six to twelve months in advance for a wedding. Less for other events. We generally do have DJs available for last-minute bookings.

Q.) Do we NEED TO feed the DJ?

We do not require a meal for your DJ. Typically, the catering director or event coordinator will set aside a meal or boxed dinner for the DJ if requested by the client.

Q.) What enhancements do you offer?

In addition to our DJ services, we also offer sound reinforcement for your ceremony, room accent lighting, intelligent dance lighting, and custom monograms.

Q.) How many songs should I request?

We like to get 15-20 songs of different genres and artists you would like to hear for cocktails, dinner, and dancing as applicable for your event as well as any songs or artists you don’t want played, so your DJ can prepare as well as organize any similarly-styled songs and artists.
